Argentina’s copper sector is being rebooted and Belararox’ TMT project is right in the thick of it

Nestled between the two highly prolific El Indo and Maricunga metallogenic gold and copper belts, Belararox has 11 highly prospective targets to explore at its Toro-Malambo-Tambo (TMT) project in Argentina.

Dormant since 2018, Argentina is now rejuvenating its copper industry with eight major projects in the pipeline with potential for some 1.2Mt of annual production.

Belararox (ASX:BRX) is well-placed to add to that via the flagship TMT project, which is in the underexplored gap between the El Indo and Maricunga metallogenic belts.

These belts host some monster deposits.

They include Lundin Mining’s $4.1 billion investment into the Josemaria mine and its Filo del Sol project which has hits of 1,338m @ 1.33% CuEq from 150m in the Maricunga belt to the north.

To the south, Barrick Gold and Shandong own the 22Moz Au Pascua Lama and 6.1Moz Au Veladero gold mines along the El Indo belt.

Satellite generated targets

Interpretation of remote sensing studies of the 320km2 TMT project using ASTER and Sentinel-2 satellite imagery was conducted by independent geologist Dr Steve Garwin and has delineated 11 targets – six of them high priority – containing potential for high sulphidation epithermal and porphyry copper systems.

BRX says initial fieldwork is concentrating on the southern portion of the Toro prospect, where known major copper and gold deposits are along the same north-south structural corridor.

The explorer is mapping the breccias and other rock units with surface sampling underway, as well as ongoing restoration of the access tracks and site improvements to increase the number of deployed field teams as exploration intensifies.

TMT exploration director Jason Ward says fieldwork will allow the company to have a better understanding of where it is in the system “to vector in on our target”.

“We shall also investigate some of the targets generated from our remote sensing studies and structural interpretation,” he says.

BRX MD Arvind Misra says the current fieldwork is a major step forward on the way to a refining a maiden drilling program.

“Dr. Steve Garwin, along with a skilled local team, is spearheading the mapping and sampling efforts,” Misra says.

“The comprehensive analysis of targets, including Tambo North, Tambo North 2, Tambo VI, Malambo 3, Malambo 4, and Lola Targets, yields valuable insights as they represent surface indicators of high-sulphidation epithermal and porphyry-style mineral systems.”
