Scorpion Minerals has wrapped up maiden drilling at the Pharos lithium project in WA
Historical sampling previously returned up to 2.99% LI2O
Assays are expected in the new year with more drilling to follow

Special Report: Scorpion Minerals has completed maiden Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling at its Pharos lithium project in WA, looking to validate historical sampling which returned up to 2.99% Li2O.

The project covers an area of 1,295 km2 and is about 60km northwest of Cue in the Murchison mineral field.

The aim of the drilling was to target outcropping LCT pegmatites at Poona East and Poona West which historically surface samples, along with testing ‘poorly targeted’ RC drilling completed by previous explorers, returned 9m at 0.77% Li2O, 9m at 0.29% Li2O and 3m at 0.49% Li2O.

Scorpion Minerals (ASX:SCN) says assays are now pending and, in the meantime, will continue to progress a maiden resource for its key WA lithium asset – Youanmi – early next year.

Targeting outcropping pegmatites

Drilling targeted outcropping Lithium-Caesium-Tantalum (LCT) pegmatites at the Poona East and West targets, with five out of seven holes intersecting significant widths of pegmatite up to 28m downhole.

The drilling also tested shallow targets identified by historical surface sampling which returned high-grade values up to 2.99% Li2O.

“We are delighted to have our maiden lithium drilling program completed within our Pharos project,” SCN CEO Michael Fotios said.

“Early indications from this initial phase of drilling confirm multiple LCT pegmatite dykes at these Poona targets which require detailed follow up drilling.

“Encouragingly, five holes in this program have intersected significant widths of pegmatites up to 28m, so we are looking forward to receiving assays from the laboratory in January.”

Follow up drilling in 2024

SCN plans to undertake the following exploration programs over Q1 and Q2 2024:

Follow up RC drilling of existing targets down dip and along strike;
RC drilling of parallel pegmatites to determine extent and composition;
Follow up geological mapping and rock chip sampling;
Auger soil geochemistry aimed at identifying additional pegmatites under shallow soil cover;
Initial diamond drill testing of existing targets at depth; and
XRD and preliminary metallurgical test work.
