Special report: Unexpected walk-up drill targets have been discovered in a newly identified spodumene-bearing pegmatite field at Trinex Minerals’ Halo-Yuri project in Canada.
Trinex Minerals (ASX:TX3) was one of the first movers in Canada’s Northwest Territories, an emerging critical minerals hot spot with spodumene-bearing pegmatites up to 1,800m long and 40m wide.
The explorer acquired three projects in late 2023 with Halo-Yuri – at about 450km2 – representing both the largest and northernmost of the three assets.
While historical exploration found spodumene-bearing pegmatites, most of the work focused on finding diamonds which left hundreds of pegmatites virtually untouched.
Four areas with spodumene outcrops
In its efforts to rapidly assess Halo-Yuri, TX3 has completed its first phase of field work which successfully identified four separate areas with numerous spodumene-bearing outcrops and boulders across the northern half of the project area.

Three new prospects – Kick, Jagged and Amber – are up to 3km in strike length and at least 30m wide.
Additional claims have been staked on the eastern side of the project to surround the eastern extension of the Kick prospect.
Ground checking turns into pegmatite field discovery
“We initially aimed at ground-checking numerous areas for follow-up sampling, instead we discovered a new spodumene-bearing pegmatite field in the north of the project that presents walk up drill targets,” Trinex Minerals managing director Will Dix says.
“Results have exceeded our expectations, and we are eager to share the assay results from the samples collected as soon as they become available.”
“Next steps at Halo-Yuri will be to determine the most optimal drill sites to test the extent of the pegmatites and incorporate this into a Land Use Permit Application that will be submitted in the next few weeks.
“We have only just started to build a picture of the potential at our Canadian lithium projects, and we remain encouraged by what we have seen in initial exploration programs.”
Looking ahead
Preparation of a Land Use Permit Application is underway, to be submitted within the next month.
As mapping progressed, it was realised numerous mineralised outcrops discovered are not readily apparent in satellite imagery, likely due to the lichen and moss common on these outcrops.
This suggests there is potential for the discovery of further spodumene-bearing pegmatites outcrop across the northern part of the project.
TX3 is looking into other techniques, such as high-resolution hyperspectral imagery, to aide further discoveries in areas of poor outcrop.
