Eagle Mountain is looking to begin a 3D seismic survey across the Silver Mountain project area
The survey will model up to 2km in depth, well below the paleosol and tertiary volcanic cover
The resulting 3D seismic model should present an exciting opportunity to delineate targets for future drilling programs
Special report: An upcoming 3D seismic survey, due to begin in May, will provide Eagle Mountain with a better understanding of Silver Mountain’s geology, which bears similarities to major porphyry systems nearby.
Eagle Mountain’s (ASX:EM2) Silver Mountain project, northwest of Phoenix in Arizona, is positioned along the same structural trend as surrounding world-class porphyry mines such as Freeport McMoran’s 1.6Bt Bagdad deposit and BHP/Rio Tinto’s Resolution deposit.
This NW-SE striking porphyry corridor, known as the Laramide Arc, informs almost all southwest US porphyry systems.
It also lies on the southern extension of a northeast-southwest prospective metallogenic belt that hosts United Verde and Iron King, two historical mines of volcanogenic massive sulphide affinity.
The intersection of these two trends results in a favourable geologic setting with high complexity and potential for multiple mineralisation styles.
Survey to help vector mineralisation system
EM2 is set to begin a 3D seismic survey on the western portion of Silver Mountain, which hosts favourable fault systems such as gossan-rich VMS trends and high-grade mineralisation up to 86.1 g/t gold, 921 g/t silver and 11.1% copper.
The project also contains thorium and uranium assays up to 387ppm and 493ppm respectively that could help vector to a mineralisation system distal to these occurrences.
Although the area hosts numerous high-grade gold and silver occurrences, EM2 says it is largely undrilled.
Fleet Space Technologies have been engaged to carry out the survey, modelling occurrences up to 2km deep to generate a 3D seismic model of these large scale prospective geological features for future drill targeting.
‘Exciting opportunity to delineate targets’
“Silver Mountain boasts multiple areas of outcropping high-grade mineralisation, but the source remains unclear,” EM2 CEO Tim Mason says.
“The survey is designed to model up to two kilometres in depth, well below the paleosol and tertiary volcanic cover.
“The resulting 3D seismic model along with previous geophysical surveys and structural interpretation should present an exciting opportunity to delineate targets for future drilling programs.”
