Godolphin uncovers strong copper and gold assays from surface grab samples at the Yeoval and Copper Hill East projects in NSW’s Lachlan Fold Belt
Results at Vaughan’s Ridge support an emerging iron-copper skarn style target
GRL’s exploration team is currently reviewing all results prior to further exploration
Special Report: Reconnaissance field trips to Godolphin Resources’ Yeoval and Copper Hill projects have returned compelling copper-gold assays from surface grab samples, justifying the potential for further exploration.
At the Vaughan’s Ridge prospect, within the western portion of the Yeoval project, assays from surface rock chip samples support an emerging iron-copper skarn target, paving the way for exploration to the north of this 8km strike alteration zone.
Results here returned elevated copper in granodiorites and silica-iron-oxide-pyrite-magnetite altered rocks including 0.36% copper, 0.17% copper, and 0.11% copper and support continued work to the north where the silica-pyrite alteration is thought to increase in thickness.
Over at Dilga Creek, a prospect in the far south of Yeoval, notable historical drill results include a 6m @ 2.05 g/t gold from 21m intersection carried out by BHP in the 1980’s and 13m @ 0.72 g/t gold, 0.88% lead and 1.30% zinc from 13m.
Godolphin’s (ASX:GRL) recent reconnaissance fieldwork demonstrated that the main area of workings and drilling coincide with strong quartz-sericite altered Yeoval granite with some samples having disseminated pyrite with malachite and azurite (copper minerals).
The northern most working consists of intense malachite and azurite in a granodiorite which returned in grab sample 0.125 g/t gold, 1.74% copper and 0.83% lead.
Exploration at Spring Creek
Given these encouraging results and the historic drill results, GRL says ongoing work will focus on compiling all historical data, detailed geological mapping across the prospect and field visits to other similar structural intersection in the area which might be analogous to Dilga Creek.
Meanwhile, exploration work carried out at the Spring Creek prospect in the northwest of its Copper Hill East project involved the collection of eight grab samples from a ploughed field with limited outcrop.
Best assay results received include 2.8 g/t gold and 0.07% copper as well as 0.027 g/t gold and 0.47% copper.
Future work will include collating historical exploration data with a view to test this structural orientation across the area with shallow auger or soil sampling and/or aircore drill methods.
Broad exploration plan in the works
Work is ongoing to collate and interpret all historical surface sample, drill data and geophysical data covering the Vaughan’s Ridge, and Dilga Creek prospects on the Yeoval Project and Spring Creek on the Copper Hill East Project.
This will then be reviewed by GRL’s exploration team to define a broader exploration program across the copper and gold prospects.
Prospect scale mapping of the north of the of the Vaughan’s Ridge target zone and cross cutting structural features at Dilga Creek is in planning.
Meanwhile, shallow auger or soil samples will test for gold-copper bearing quartz veins at Spring Creek following an orientation program with the aim of identifying the depth required to collect the samples and will determine the most appropriate sampling method.
