TG Metals delivers more high-grade lithium intersections at Burmeister
Hits of up to 23.5m @ 1.52% Li2O confirm Burmeister as a significant high grade spodumene lithium discovery
Drilling provides evidence that thicker mineralised intersections are continuous up-dip of the original discovery
Special Report: TG Metals continues to deliver success at the Burmeister lithium prospect with initial assays from its 2024 drilling returning more high-grade lithium intersections of up to 23.5m @ 1.52% Li2O.
This follows last year’s drilling program which returned multiple high-grade intersections that highlighted the potential of Burmeister – part of TG Metals’ (ASX:TG6) Lake Johnston project – as a significant spodumene lithium discovery.
Latter holes returned notable hits such as 2m @ 2.18% Li2O from 215.6m within a broader intersection of 17.1m @ 1.66% Li2O from 203.7m, and 4m @ 1.2% Li2O from 201m.
These intercepts follow the first hole which returned a core sample containing up to 2.28% Li2O.
The discovery led to a pegging rush in the Lake Johnston area which saw companies including mining heavyweight Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) scramble for available ground.

More high-grade intersections
TG6 has now followed last year’s drilling success with yet more high-grade lithium intersections, including the top intersection of 23.5m @ 1.52 Li2O from 127.4m.
Adding interest, the diamond drilling has provided more evidence that thicker mineralised intersections are continuous up-dip of the discovery hole.
Diamond drilling results have also added to the company’s geological model for Burmeister, with upcoming reverse circulation results expected to further refine the interpretation.
“These initial results from the 2024 drilling confirm Burmeister as a significant high grade spodumene lithium discovery with excellent potential as a near term major deposit,” TG6 chief executive David Selfe said.
“This large mineralised system continues to show upside with thick pegmatite intervals intersected up dip from the original discovery holes. The drilling program has provided sufficient core sample for our first round of metallurgical test work which will now begin in earnest.
“The results of this will add to the planning for resource drill out at Burmeister. Permitting on the promising Jaegermeister prospect is progressing well with field activities nearing completion.
“In addition, we will be testing wider expanses of the soil anomaly with seismic geophysics to further inform the lithium pegmatite geological model and our drill targeting.”
Next steps
TG6 is currently carrying out flora, fauna and heritage surveys over Jaegermeister and Burmeister to facilitate the next phase of exploration.
Once these are completed, the company will restart drilling with a maiden program at Jaegermeister and the continuation of work over Burmeister.
Infill soil sampling on Jaegermeister has been completed and samples are at the laboratory being processed.
TG6 also intends to run seismic trials over Burmeister and Jaegermeister to aid with drill targeting.
Seismic work over the known pegmatite occurrences at Burmeister should confirm the validity of seismic geophysics in detecting pegmatites in the Lake Johnston terrain.
Additionally, the Tay prospect to the south of Burmeister is being evaluated for historical drilling records with a view to defining near-term lithium targets for drill testing.
