Special Report: Lithium hunter TG Metals has been approved a program of works to drill pegmatite targets at its Jaegermeister and Burmeister deposits at the emerging Lake Johnston critical minerals district in southern WA.

TG Metals rerated heavily after an October 2023 drilling campaign at Burmeister returned grades of up to 3.09% Li2O.

The company now says Burmeister could be a standalone operation after defining an exploration target of 15.6Mt to 20.1Mt grading 0.97% to 1.19% Li2O.

Since the discovery of Burmeister, a plethora of juniors have pegged ground in the broader Lake Johnston district, including Torque Metals (ASX:TOR), Charger Metals (ASX:CHR) and Bryah Resources (ASX:BYH), as well majors MinRes (ASX:MIN) and Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO).

Further work carried out by TG Metals (ASX:TG6) over the Lake Johnston lithium project has since defined lithium trends over a strike of ~8km and delineated five new drill targets, including Jaegermeister.

Drilling to get underway

Program of Work (PoW) applications have now been approved by DEMIRS for infill drilling to 100m x 100m at the Burmeister lithium deposit and for the maiden drill program at Jaegermeister.

Drill pad clearing contractors have mobilised to the site and drill rig mobilisation is expected to occur this month.

Two RC drilling rigs will be deployed to Jaegermeister Targets A and B, as well as infill drilling at Burmeister.

TG6 has more results to analyse too, after recently completing infill soil sampling at Jaegermeister which defined a new anomaly – Target E –  pushing up the number of high-priority targets to five.

Fast-tracked targeting

Seismic survey results are currently being analysed to help guide planned drilling and future phases of exploration work, while the first stage of metallurgical testwork has also been completed for separation and flotation tests.

TG6 CEO David Selfe says after a short delay the team is excited to recommence drilling across the identified targets.

“In particular, the first holes into the priority targets at the Jaegermeister prospect, are greatly anticipated,” Selfe says.

“Further soil sampling has grown and improved the Jaegermeister targets, which contains multiple soil anomalies bigger than the Burmeister Lithium Deposit initially presented.

“With such a large area of lithium soil anomalism to drill test, we’re confident that the use of seismic geophysics will fast-track our targeting.

“We’ve completed two reconnaissance 2D seismic lines; one along the Burmeister trend and a longer one along the Jaegermeister trend.

“If successful, this technique will not only minimise the drilling required for further discovery and resource definition, but it will also provide a very good understanding of the pegmatite system at Lake Johnston and its size potential.”
