Nvidia Secures Deal with Saudi Arabia’s Humain
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced on Tuesday that the company will supply over 18,000 of its latest artificial intelligence (AI) chips to Saudi company Humain. The announcement was made during a White House-led trip to Saudi Arabia, which included President Donald Trump and other top CEOs.
State-of-the-Art Blackwell Chips for Data Centers
The cutting-edge Blackwell chips will be used in Saudi Arabia’s data centers, which will total 500 megawatts of capacity, according to statements made at the Saudi-U.S. Investment Forum in Riyadh. Nvidia’s GB300 Blackwell chips, officially unveiled earlier this year, will be part of the first deployment in this expansive AI infrastructure project.
Importance of AI Chips in Global Trade
This deal highlights the growing importance of Nvidia’s chips in the global tech landscape, especially as countries worldwide vie for access to these powerful devices. These chips are crucial for training and deploying advanced AI software, including popular models like ChatGPT.
Trump Administration’s Role in Promoting AI Infrastructure
Huang expressed his excitement about contributing to Saudi Arabia’s ambitious AI development plans, stating, “It is an incredible vision that Saudi Arabia should build the AI infrastructure of your nation to participate and help shape the future of this transformative technology.” Nvidia shares saw a rise of over 5% following the announcement.
U.S. Export License and National Security Concerns
In related news, the U.S. Department of Commerce recently announced plans to replace a rule introduced by President Joe Biden, implementing a simpler approach for the export of Nvidia’s chips. Since 2023, Nvidia has been required to seek an export license for its AI chips due to national security concerns.
Partnership with Humain and Saudi Investment
Humain, which will be owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, aims to develop AI models and build large-scale data center infrastructure. Nvidia’s GPUs will be key in powering this AI-driven project. Huang highlighted the significance of Saudi Arabia’s energy resources in supporting this transformative initiative, referring to the AI supercomputers as “AI factories.”
AMD’s Role in AI Project and Trump’s Praise
AMD also announced its involvement in the project, agreeing to supply chips to Humain as part of the effort to build the 500-megawatt AI capacity. Humain has committed $10 billion to the project. AMD stock saw a 4% increase on Tuesday. During the event, President Trump praised Jensen Huang for his presence, contrasting him with Apple CEO Tim Cook, who was absent from the event. Trump remarked, “Thank you very much, Jensen. I mean, Tim Cook isn’t here, but you are.”
