Google Expands Gemini AI With New Personalization Features

Google has introduced new personalization options for its Gemini chatbot, rolling out experimental features on Thursday that allow users to tailor their AI experience.

Enhanced Search Integration and App Connectivity

As part of the update, Gemini can now reference users’ Google Search histories to provide more relevant responses and recommendations. This feature is opt-in, meaning users must enable it for their search data to be integrated into the AI’s conversational capabilities.

Additionally, users can now connect their Google Calendar, Notes, Tasks, and Photos directly to Gemini, allowing the AI to assist with scheduling, reminders, and content organization.

Gems AI Assistants Now Available to All Users

Google is also expanding availability of its Gems feature, which allows users to create custom AI assistants specialized in specific topics. This personalization enables Gemini to act as a tailored AI expert for various user needs.

Google’s Push to Dominate AI

The latest enhancements reflect Google’s ambition to establish itself as a leader in the AI race. DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis previously told internal teams that scaling Gemini for consumers is a top priority, calling it their “biggest focus” for the coming year, according to CNBC.

New AI Models: Gemma 3 and Gemini Robotics

On Wednesday, Google introduced its open-source Gemma 3 AI models, designed for developers building AI applications capable of analyzing text, images, and short videos. The company described Gemma 3 as “the world’s best single-accelerator model”, optimized to run efficiently on a single GPU.

Additionally, Google launched two new AI models—Gemini Robotics and Gemini Robotics-ER (Extended Reasoning). Both operate on the Gemini 2.0 framework, which Google calls its “most capable” AI model to date.

Competition With Chinese AI Firms

Google executives have acknowledged growing competition from Chinese AI firms, particularly DeepSeek. Hassabis noted that DeepSeek’s AI development costs were likely much lower than reported and that the company relied heavily on Western AI models.

With these advancements, Google continues to expand Gemini’s capabilities, aiming to solidify its position in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
