Gold concentrate from Stage 1 bench-scale testing returned up to 47.28g/t gold
Bulk samples were shipped to a third-party processing facility in the hope they would mirror those processed via the Jugan pilot plant
A further shipment of 4-5t of Jugan bulk samples sent for processing as part of Stage 2
Special Report: Besra Gold has successfully completed the production of gold concentrate from its Bau project in Borneo.
Besra Gold (ASX:BEZ) has been focused at moving the development of the Bau gold project on the island of Borneo into top gear after shareholders approved a transformational US$300m funding facility from top shareholder, Quantum Metal Recovery, in June.
With Jugan being the most advanced prospect, this funding allowed Besra to accelerate the final feasibility studies for Jugan, as well as resource delineation for the broader Bau gold field.
Drilling carried out in 2021-2022 confirmed the standalone development potential of Jugan – including higher grades – with mineralisation starting from surface meaning that any mine will benefit from a low strip ratio.
The funding provided Besra with the confidence to increase exploration activity as well as progress development at the project, which boasts a 3.4Mt resource at 1.55g/t for 166,900oz of contained gold in the measured category, another 16.4Mt at 1.6g/t for 824,000oz in indicated ounces and a hefty 47.9Mt at 1.3g/t for 1.99Moz in the inferred category.
Concentrate gold grades
With the company making further headway in its development at Bau, gold concentrate from Stage 1 bench-scale testing showed “pleasing concentrate grades” of up to 47.28 g/t and 46.18 g/t gold.

Bulk samples were shipped to a third-party processing facility specifically selected because the results were anticipated to mirror those processed via the Jugan pilot plant, once commissioned.
These bulk samples were then shipped to a third-party processing facility, which had been specifically identified because it was designed to process the same style of refractory gold as found at Jugan, and provides capabilities to emulate the treatment characteristics of the Jugan plant.
What’s next?
A further 4-5t of Jugan bulk samples were sent for processing as part of Stage 2.
Stage 2 trial processing will adopt the processing sequence determined as a result of the initial Stage 1 processing. This will be continued during January with further results announced when available.
