Pioneer Lithium’s initial scout prospecting identifies nine new pegmatite outcrops at LaGrande in the world-class James Bay region
Maiden field work has also confirmed site accessibility through existing roads at LaGrande East and West
Planning for a comprehensive summer field work program underway
Special Report: Initial scout prospecting at Pioneer Lithium’s LaGrande project in Quebec’s James Bay region has been completed, resulting in the identification of nine new pegmatites and paving the way for a more expansive exploration campaign next year.
Pioneer Lithium’s (ASX:PLN) largely unexplored 4,688 hectare LaGrande project is surrounded by some of the most exciting lithium discoveries in the James Bay region.
These include Patriot Battery Metals’ (ASX:PMT) 109.2Mt at 1.42% Li2O Corvette project about 12km to the south and Winsome Resources’ (ASX:WR1) Cancet discovery 20km to the west.
PMT’s new discovery at the CV9 pegmatite came after a drill hole intersected ~100m of near-continuous spodumene-bearing pegmatite, reinforcing the district-scale nature of Corvette.
For PLN, this rather neatly underscores the potential prospectivity of LaGrande, which sits within the western portion of the Upper Archean Frotet-Evans metavolcanic belt.

The concentrated three-day scout prospecting program — the very first field work carried out by the company at LaGrande — has discovered nine pegmatite outcrops across the LaGrande East and West claims.
Notably, it has also confirmed that existing roads provide good accessibility to both the LaGrande East and West claims, allowing prospecting and mapping works to be carried out using a combination of hiking and all-terrain vehicles.
In addition, the Riviere property has been found to be accessible by helicopter though accessibility factors and snowfall hampered prospecting efforts at this time.
“We are pleased to have been able to complete this concentrated 3-day campaign at LaGrande given the weather and logistical challenges,” managing director Clinton Booth said.
“Fieldwork at this time of year is typically significantly hampered by weather and, with snow falling, conditions on the ground were difficult.
“The team from Pioneer Lithium and IOS applied a flexible approach to prospecting and scouting activities, and this has allowed us to complete the campaign effectively and obtain valuable information to inform our next fieldwork campaign.”
Next steps
PLN is currently planning a comprehensive field work program, which is currently forecast to occur in the summer of 2024.
Information gathered from the initial prospecting and scouting program will be used to inform the design and implementation of future activities.
