Sampling ongoing and plans are afoot for drilling to be carried out at the area

Special Report: Kula Gold has identified substantial gold prospectivity at and around the historical Cammilleri mine within its Brunswick project in WA’s South West region.

The Cammilleri mine area is in the regional setting of the Donnybrook gold mine and had historical production of 236.73oz at grades of about 146g/t gold.

It is in a gold trend that is located near the intersection of the major Donnybrook Shear Zone and the Darling Fault Zone and sits along this main gold corridor.

Recent rock chip sampling and mapping by Kula Gold (ASX:KGD) highlighted the Cammilleri area’s potential to host more gold after returning laboratory assays of up to 11.19g/t gold.

Golden support

A review of reverse circulation drilling completed in October 2003 at the adjacent Mt Cara mine noted that gold assays over various intervals were highly variable across the repeats with the company attributing this to the use of Aqua regia digestion with AAS, (atomic absorption spectrometer).

It noted that this assay method is known for its inability to provide a full digestion in coarse nuggety gold.

Taking advantage of the fact that the old sample bags remained intact onsite, KGD has now carried out extensive relogging and reassaying of the 2003 drilling using the detailed fire assay methodology for a more complete gold digestion and assay reading.

While assay results are still pending, the relogging of the historical RC drill chips has provided evidence of more intervals of potential nuggety gold mineralisation with remnant sulphides observed in the quartz intervals and the observation that the quartz veins have haematite alteration.

“Kula Gold is particularly interested in both the Cammilleri mine and surrounds in a historically very rich area. This neglected old mine has had no drilling since closing the mining in 1903,” managing director Ric Dawson said.

“Kula Gold is looking forward to this historical oversight and reaping the rewards for being more thorough.”

Current and future activity

KGD is continuing sampling work in the Cammilleri area to refine drill targets.

It has also submitted a Programme of Work to the WA government for drilling once results are received.

Separately, the company has mapping, rock chip sampling and soil sampling program underway this quarter at the Jarvis prospect to provide better old definition for drilling.

This follows a recent geological review of soil sampling and drilling during the mid-1980s that found that the use of inferior equipment led to poor and contaminated sample recovery.
