{"id":9543,"date":"2024-05-13T01:51:54","date_gmt":"2024-05-13T01:51:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=9543"},"modified":"2024-05-13T01:51:54","modified_gmt":"2024-05-13T01:51:54","slug":"drilling-steps-out-further-along-red-metals-unique-potentially-low-cost-rare-earths-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=9543","title":{"rendered":"Drilling steps out further along Red Metal\u2019s unique, potentially low-cost rare earths project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Up to 10,000m of step-out drilling is now underway at Red Metal\u2019s Sybella REO project<br \/>\nREO mineralisation is within unique enriched granite-hosted geology; potentially a world first<br \/>\nPhase 2 drilling is testing further along the granite to assess REO grades<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Special Report<\/em><\/strong><strong>: An extensive 10,000m step-out drill program is underway on economic portions of Red Metal\u2019s new Sybella rare earth oxide (REO) discovery, 20km southwest of Mount Isa in northwest QLD.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/red-metal-rdm\/\"><strong>Red Metal (ASX:RDM)<\/strong><\/a> reckons it might have a \u201cworld first\u201d on its hands; a new rare earths deposit style that\u2019s extensive and cheap to mine and process.<\/p>\n<p>Sybella is a unique, partially weathered and fresh REO-enriched granite &gt;12km-long and 3km-wide that offers vast tonnage potential with high concentrations of valuable magnet rare earths such as neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium and terbium in the overall REO content.<\/p>\n<p>Initial <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/resources\/resources-top-5-red-metals-rare-earths-test-results-stand-out-among-strong-quarterly-reporters\/\"><strong>Metallurgical test work on the \u00a0granite <\/strong><\/a>found that the REO content was extractable using sulphuric acid at ambient temperature and offers scope for processing using \u201cheap leach methods with the potential for highly competitive capital and operating costs\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Oblique ariel view of Sybella facing north with drill holes illustrated. Pic supplied: (RDM)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Phase 1 discovers three broad target areas<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>An initial Phase 1 RC drill program discovered large widths of granite-hosted REO mineralisation with wide zones of &gt;300 ppm NdPr oxide starting at surface.<\/p>\n<p>Although limited by the number of drill lines, three broad areas of interest were identified \u2013 Boundary Fence East, Boundary Fence West and Donkey Dam.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Drill sections at Sybella showing variation in NdPr oxide assay values at depth from Phase 1. Pic supplied: (RDM)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Subsequent <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/resources\/ansto-gives-the-thumbs-up-to-red-metals-test-work-on-unique-heap-leachable-source-of-reos\/\"><strong>ambient temperature leach test work by ANSTO<\/strong><\/a> demonstrated that strong REO extractions can be achieved on coarse non-pulverised, RC chip samples with low levels of sulphuric acid consumption.<\/p>\n<p>RDM says it points to the opportunity for simple, low-cost REO processing potentially involving heap leach methods that avoid the need for extensive crushing.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Phase 2 step-out drilling<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The current Phase 2 drilling will initially cover an 8 x 3km area of Sybella with 60m deep holes spaced on 800 x 200m and 800 x 400m centres.<\/p>\n<p>The program will account for some 150 holes and ~10,000m of drilling designed to test the grade of REOs and any metallurgical variability across this portion of the granite.<\/p>\n<p>AC drilling will provide non-pulverised, weathered granite to bit refusal while percussion drilling will extend these holes to 60m acquiring fresh granite for analysis.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A drill rig on site at Sybella.
