{"id":882,"date":"2023-11-02T02:02:49","date_gmt":"2023-11-02T02:02:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=882"},"modified":"2023-11-02T02:02:49","modified_gmt":"2023-11-02T02:02:49","slug":"asx-health-stocks-island-pharma-granted-aussie-patent-for-flavivirus-infection-drug-isla-101","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=882","title":{"rendered":"ASX Health Stocks: Island Pharma granted Aussie patent for flavivirus infection drug, ISLA-101"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aussie patent granted to Island Pharma related to flavivirus infections<br \/>\nChimeric does first patient in Phase 1B clinical trial<br \/>\nImugene clears milestones in\u00a0 VAXINIA trial<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Island Pharma granted Aussie patent<\/h2>\n<p>Antiviral drug specialist, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/island-pharmaceuticals-ila\/\">Island Pharmaceuticals (ASX:ILA),<\/a><\/strong> announced that a key patent relating to its lead drug candidate,<strong> ISLA-101,<\/strong> has been granted by <strong>IP Australia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian patent grant entitled <em>\u201cMethod of Viral Inhibition\u201d<\/em> has an expiration date of 16 April 2034. Claims of the patent are directed to the method of treating or preventing <strong>flavivirus infections<\/strong> by administering ISLA-101.<\/p>\n<p>Island says the patent underpins its drug repurposing strategy to rapidly develop antiviral therapies, with a key focus being mosquito borne viral diseases, such as <strong>dengue fever<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Around 390 million people are infected with dengue fever each year, representing a significant unmet need and opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>The new patent adds to the growing intellectual property thicket that is being established around ISLA-101.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Australian patent, together with the equivalent patents granted in other key markets, underpin the investment we are making in bringing forward ISLA-101 as a potential new approach to combatting the world\u2019s growing problem with dengue fever and other mosquito-borne viral diseases,\u201d said Island CEO, Dr David Foster.<\/p>\n<p>This latest Australian patent builds further on Island\u2019s strong IP portfolio that also includes the US, Canada, Brazil, and Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>First patient dose in Chimeric\u2019s Phase 1B clinical trial<\/h2>\n<p>Cell therapy biotech, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/chimeric-therapeutics-chm\/\">Chimeric Therapeutics (ASX:CHM)<\/a><\/strong>, says the first patient in the company\u2019s <strong>Phase 1B clinical trial<\/strong> in recurrent and\/or progressive glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) had received <strong>CHM 1101 CAR T <\/strong>cell treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The patient was dosed at the <em>Sarah Cannon Transplant &amp; Cellular Therapy Program<\/em> at <em>St David\u2019s South Austin Medical Center<\/em> in Austin, Texas.
