{"id":8647,"date":"2024-04-22T05:38:30","date_gmt":"2024-04-22T05:38:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=8647"},"modified":"2024-04-22T05:38:30","modified_gmt":"2024-04-22T05:38:30","slug":"galan-just-got-the-government-agreement-it-needs-to-start-commercialising-its-argentinian-lithium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=8647","title":{"rendered":"Galan just got the government agreement it needs to start commercialising its Argentinian lithium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Galan signs commercialisation permits for lithium concentrate to be sold both locally and exported internationally<br \/>\nDeal includes commitment to explore downstream processing routes after four years, enhancing project development<br \/>\nHMW on track for first production in H1 2025<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Special Report<\/em><\/strong><strong>: Lithium brine-focused Galan Lithium has signed a pivotal commercial agreement with the Catamarca government for both domestic and international export of concentrate from its Hombre Muerto West (HMW) project in Argentina, providing it with much bigger market access. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/galan-lithium-gln\/\"><strong>Galan Lithium\u2019s (ASX:GLN)<\/strong><\/a> 7.9Mt HMW project in Argentina\u2019s slice of South America\u2019s Lithium Triangle is a four-phase lithium brine development with a final production target of 60,000tpa lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/resources\/high-grades-big-profits-and-low-costs-phase-2-dfs-shows-galans-hmw-lithium-project-truly-worthy-of-tier-1-status\/\"><strong>definitive feasibility study (DFS) update<\/strong><\/a> last year has earmarked attractive economics for the project, with Phase 1 to target 5,400tpa LCE, Phase 2 production of 21,000tpa LCE in 2026, 40,000tpa by 2028 for Phase 3 and 60,000tpa LCE for Phase 4 which will include its other brine project Candelas \u2013 taking that total up to 8.6Mt.<\/p>\n<p>GLN is <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/resources\/project-builder-galan-lithium-increases-brine-resources-by-20-to-support-four-stage-60000tpa-production-target\/\"><strong>already filling the ponds<\/strong><\/a> as part of its Phase 1 target and is on track to come online in H1 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Commercialisation of HMW<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The commercial agreement with the Catamarca Government to facilitate the commercialisation of lithium chloride concentrate from HMW is a significant milestone in Galan\u2019s project strategy and will provide access to larger customer bases both domestically and internationally.<\/p>\n<p>It also contains provisions for potential advance payments and an increase in royalty rates to 7% \u2013 similar to successful regimes in Australia which catapulted it to becoming the largest lithium exporter in the world.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of product downstream, Galan says it expects to produce both lithium carbonite and\/or hydroxide \u2013 further increasing its market exposure.<\/p>\n<p>Galan will commit to exploring downstream processing routes after four years, aimed at expanding lithium production capabilities beyond the HMW salar and GLN intends to offer priority to a collaboration with the Catamarca government agency.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement also facilitates the granting of Phase 2 permits, potentially enabling the continuation of Phase 2 construction.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p><em>Catamarca Governor Ra\u00fal Jalil and Galan MD Juan Pablo Vargas de la Vega.
