{"id":8114,"date":"2024-04-09T02:13:18","date_gmt":"2024-04-09T02:13:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=8114"},"modified":"2024-04-09T02:13:18","modified_gmt":"2024-04-09T02:13:18","slug":"asx-health-stocks-patrys-and-next-science-jump-after-presenting-data-on-studies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=8114","title":{"rendered":"ASX Health Stocks: Patrys and Next Science jump after presenting data on studies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Patrys\u2019 deoxymabs data on vasculitis disease presented<br \/>\nNext Science\u2019s BLASTX data published<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Patrys\u2019 deoxymabs data presented<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/patrys-pab\/\">Patrys (ASX:PAB)<\/a><\/strong> jumped 12% this morning after announcing that new data from preclinical studies using <strong>PAT-DX1<\/strong> and <strong>PAT-DX3<\/strong> (both called deoxymabs) in animal models were presented by <strong>Dr Kim O\u2019Sullivan from Monash University<\/strong> during the plenary session at the<em> 21st International Vasculitis Workshop<\/em> in Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>The presentation demonstrated positive preclinical data for deoxymabs in the autoimmune disease,<strong> anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) vasculitis.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Previously, Patrys has shown that its deoxymabs suppress the formation of <em>neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>NETs are structures comprised of DNA strands and certain proteins produced by neutrophils. Recent studies have indicated that NETs may play an important role in the establishment and maintenance of cancer cells, the spreading of cancer (metastasis) and in regulating inflammation.<\/p>\n<p>As the formation of NETs is one of the underlying processes in the development of the autoimmune disease ANCA vasculitis, Dr O\u2019Sullivan extended these findings by examining the impact of Patrys\u2019 deoxymabs in an animal model of the disease.<\/p>\n<p>The key results from these studies include:<\/p>\n<p>PAT-DX1 and PAT-DX3 are both able to inhibit the formation of NETs in an animal model of ANCA vasculitis;<br \/>\nBoth deoxymabs reduced the level of inflammation and kidney injury in the animal model of ANCA vasculitis;<br \/>\nHowever, neither PAT-DX1 nor PAT-DX3 had any detrimental effect on neutrophils indicating that their administration did not result in any suppression of the immune system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are particularly excited by the discovery that both PAT-DX1 and PAT-DX3 are able to reduce symptoms of inflammation without negatively impacting the immune system as this is one of the major side-effects of existing therapies for vasculitis,\u201d said Dr Sullivan.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Next Science\u2019s BLASTX data published<\/h2>\n<p>Meanwhile, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/next-science-nxs\/\">Next Science (ASX:NXS)<\/a><\/strong> announced the publication of a study which found <strong>BLASTX<\/strong> to be efficacious in the treatment of pressure ulcers, when used in conjunction with <strong>negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The study has been published in <em>Diagnostics<\/em>, an international peer-reviewed journal, by <em>Dr Thomas E. Serena<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The primary objective of the study was to determine whether adding an anti-microbial agent would decrease both planktonic and biofilm bacteria in a wound, and increase the efficacy of NPWT.<\/p>\n<p>Fluorescence imaging was used to track bacterial burden and inform therapy.
