Although Dart Mining has a decent Mesoblast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ASX200 ends Tuesday slightly lower<br \/>\nResources stocks hold the fort, everyone else AWOL\u00a0<br \/>\nSmall Caps led by Dart Mining and Mesoblast<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Local stocks looked the goods during the first hour of the new quarter, but that \u2013 like the ASX200\u2019s new, new record high, (clocked at about 11.30am) dissolved into the nothing that Ridley Scott might call \u201ctears in rain\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>At 4pm on the 2nd of April, the S&amp;P\/ASX 200 (XJO) was down about 11 points or 0.14% to 7,886.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>This morning the benchmark looked to be (briefly) breaking goodly \u2013 there were buyers and stocks were higher(s).<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the ASX200 clocked its new record \u2013 pushing through 7910 points, before suddenly remembering it was a very nervous Nellie when left to its own devices. Not the horse that likes to get out front.<\/p>\n<p>And so, Australian shares slipped into the red and stayed there.<\/p>\n<p>Local resources stocks have done the best of a bad bunch, where broad-based sidelining, a little selling and lots of \u2018umming and ahhing\u2019 was the menu for the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Oil drove gains as it did on Wall Street last night.<\/p>\n<p>WTI crude futures rose to around $83.5 per barrel on Monday, hitting the highest levels in five months as investors brace for the cigar smoke and mirrors of OPEC+ having a hoedown this week.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese demand is up and a likely Israeli attack on Iran in Syria certainly isn\u2019t good news for anyone but oil producers.<\/p>\n<p>Gold hit a new high on Monday, but has since walked that back.<\/p>\n<p>The uncertain trading followed mixed returns on Wall Street overnight after a spectacular manfacturing read cast doubt on future interest rate cuts.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>The RBA Minutes in 20 seconds<\/h2>\n<p>So we\u2019ve guzzled the brain juice of the local central bank\u2019s monthly board minutes.<\/p>\n<p>In recap: the RBA left the official cash rate (OCR) unchanged at 4.35%, reckoning that\u2019d be the best way to achieve the safe and most pain-free return to an inflation target of 2-3%, the jobs market to full employment and love among men.<\/p>\n<p>Board members said while hitting the inflation target was top priority, it was also hella important to keep the jobs the market\u2019s found recently, too.<\/p>\n<p>But, all said, the latest good-looking inflation data hasn\u2019t change their mindset.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the last par, which is the best bit.<\/p>\n<p>The economic data indicated the economy was \u201ctracking broadly as expected\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s still \u201csignificant uncertainties\u201d but now, \u201cthe risks seemed broadly balanced\u201d. That\u2019s positive. A neutral bias even.<\/p>\n<p>Members then took coffee, likely discussed <a href=\"https:\/\/plato.stanford.edu\/entries\/existentialism\/#:~:text=Of%20all%20the%20existentialists%2C%20Nietzsche,1974%5D%2C%20%C2%A755).\">Nietzsche\u2019s role in existentialism<\/a>, stretched their legs and agreed that it was not possible \u201cto either rule in or out\u201d future changes in the cash rate target.<\/p>\n<p>Members also \u201cagreed to reiterate their resolve to do what is necessary to return inflation to target\u201d, nodding sagely and determinedly all the while.<\/p>\n<p><em>Via RBA<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>ASX SECTORS ON TUESDAY<\/h2>\n<p>Via MarketIndex<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Not the ASX<\/h2>\n<p>In China, President Xi Jinping\u2019s most recent pledge to do something to fix the broken economy paid instant dividends on Honkers on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The Hang Seng shot out of the blocks and hit 2.6% by lunchtime after a weekend factory activity read suggested manufacturing orders clocked a 13 mont high last month.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese equities are trying hard to turn a corner, and the mainland indices have certainly logged gains of a more positive tint, with several recent indicators implying that while it\u2019s no boom, China\u2019s business outlook\u2019s not all doom and gloom.<\/p>\n<p>March OFC was a winner for Wall Street, ending a fine first quarter for all, however, the latest inflation data left US markets mixed and raised the ghosts of a more timid Federal Reserve \u2013 and so equity traders\u2019 now fear for their precious, purported x 3 rate cuts by the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday in New York then, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell almost 0.6% and the broader S&amp;P500 gave up 0.2%.<\/p>\n<p>The tech-heavy is harder to slow when on a roll, the Nasdaq Composite moving into circa 0.1%.<\/p>\n<p>The Comms and Energy sectors both led gains. Up about 85% by end of play.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Also doing well early, <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/mesoblast-msb\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Mesoblast (ASX:MSB)<\/span><\/a> \u2013 thanks largely to last week\u2019s stonking news that the FDA has effectively reversed its call that cratered the company stock price in July last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/neuroscientific-biopharmaceuticals-nsb\/\">NeuroScientific Biopharmaceuticals (ASX:NSB)<\/a><\/span><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 hard to say but a joy to play: <\/span>climbing on news the company has filed a Pre-Investigation New Drug Application (\u2018pre-IND\u2019) meeting request with the US Food and Drug Administration (\u2018FDA\u2019) for EmtinB for treatment of advanced glaucoma in adults.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Additionally, NSB also announced that it has appointed current non-executive director, Dr Tony Keating as executive director, initially on a part time basis following the resignation of Dougal Thring as chief operating officer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Power and gas retailer<a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/tpc-consolidated\/\"><span class=\"s1\"> TPC Consolidated (ASX:TPC)<\/span><\/a> was up after it attracted a takeover offer from Beijing Energy International at $8.77\/sh cash, plus special dividend and\/or return of capital of up to $2.64\/sh and the right to potential earn out scheme consideration of up to $4.41\/sh. The TPC board recommends the deal, by the way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Pot stock<a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/melodiol-global-health-me1\/\"><span class=\"s1\"> Melodiol (ASX:ME1)<\/span><\/a> announced Canadian subsidiary Mernova has approvals to launch new products across several provincial markets. It delivered $1.75m of unaudited revenue in Q1 2024, up 13% on Q1 2023, with the Q2 order book already sitting at $373,000.
