Momentum trading involves taking advantage of, and making profits from, upward trends in a stock. Momentum traders bet that the stock market\u2019s recent winners will remain winners.<\/p>\n
A well known expert in the world of momentum trading is Gary Antonacci,<\/strong> who\u2019s also the author of the award-winning book, \u201cDual Momentum Investing: An Innovative Strategy for Higher Returns with Lower Risk\u201d.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n In his book, Antonacci wrote:<\/p>\n \u201cMomentum investing requires a great deal of patience, but when it does work, it works phenomenally well. The key is sticking to your strategy and not letting emotions interfere with your decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n Antonacci\u2019s strategy revolves around the concept of Dual Momentum<\/strong> \u2013 which involves combining absolute momentum<\/strong> (a stock\u2019s own recent performance) and relative momentum<\/strong> (comparing the stock\u2019s performance to that of other stocks).<\/p>\n Antonacci advised investors to allocate a portion of their portfolio to stocks that have shown positive absolute momentum over a period.
