{"id":4866,"date":"2024-01-24T23:36:10","date_gmt":"2024-01-24T23:36:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=4866"},"modified":"2024-01-24T23:36:10","modified_gmt":"2024-01-24T23:36:10","slug":"australian-mines-new-brazilian-ree-target-has-all-the-ingredients-for-a-succulent-fry-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=4866","title":{"rendered":"Australian Mines\u2019 new Brazilian REE target has all the ingredients for a succulent fry-up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Australian Mines identifies high-priority target for follow-up exploration at the Jequie REE project in Brazil<br \/>\nThe target contains a 30km long by up to 2.5km wide thorium anomaly \u2013 a common indicator of REE mineralisation<br \/>\nPotential to host adsorption clay-hosted REE mineralisation, monazite sand deposits and primary REE deposits<br \/>\nSurface soil and outcrop rock-chip sampling to prioritise targeting for auger drilling<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Special Report:<\/em> Preliminary exploration work at Australian Mines\u2019 Jequie rare earths project in Brazil\u2019s Bahia state has identified a high-priority target for follow-up exploration.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The ~826km2 Jequie project is immediately adjacent to the 510Mt Rocha de Rocha rare earths project \u2013 comparable to the world\u2019s biggest non-Chinese rare earth clay project at Serra Verde \u2013 that is operated by the Gina Rinehart-backed explorer <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/brazilian-rare-earths-bre\/\"><strong>Brazilian Rare Earths (ASX:BRE)<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>REE mineralisation in this region can typically be found in three mineralisation models:<\/p>\n<p>REE-enriched phases within hard rocks;<br \/>\nREE concentration by the physical degradation of REE-enriched source rocks by weathering to form soils and sands (e.g. monazite sands); and<br \/>\nREE concentration by the advanced weathering of source rocks to form saprolite and saprolite clay horizons enriched by adsorption (ionic clay mineralisation).<\/p>\n<p>Jequie is also expected to benefit from associated complementary infrastructure of sealed roads, access to clean hydropower and a major deep-water port less than 200km away.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/australian-mines-auz\/\"><strong>Australian Mines (ASX:AUZ)<\/strong><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/resources\/brazilian-carnival-beckons-for-the-reborn-australian-mines\/\"><strong>acquired both Jequie and the Resende lithium project<\/strong><\/a> in the Minas Gerais State in December last year as part of a \u201creset\u201d into a battery metals-focused company.<\/p>\n<p>As part of this, the company will be renamed EcoMetal Resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The airborne radiometric thorium anomaly at Jequie. Pic: Supplied (AUZ)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Exciting target at Jequie<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The revitalised company will have an exciting target to pursue at Jequie in the form of the new target which comprises:<\/p>\n<p>An extensive airborne radiometric thorium anomaly \u2013 a good indicator of rare earths mineralisation \u2013 that stretches for 30km in length and a width of up to 2.5km;<br \/>\nThick, in-situ saprolite and saprolite clay profiles that could host highly sought-after ionic adsorption clay-hosted rare earth deposits and\/or monazite sand deposits; and<br \/>\nIdentified outcropping leucogranite and charnockite which could either host primary REEs or represent the source of secondary REE oxides contained within weathered saprolite clays.<\/p>\n<p>Adding interest, field testing with a portable scintillometer returned positive readings for the presence of potential REE-bearing minerals in outcrop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very pleased to have rapidly identified and ground-truthed such a high priority target,\u201d AUZ chief executive officer Andrew Nesbitt said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe target has all the ingredients to contain a significant rare earth element resource, and we are looking forward to the next phase of exploration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Given the highly encouraging results from its initial reconnaissance work, AUZ plans to rapidly progress surface soil and outcrop rock-chip sampling to prioritise targeting thick weathered saprolite and saprolite clay horizons for auger drill testing.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p><span class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>This article was developed in collaboration with Australian Mines, a Stockhead advertiser at the time of publishing. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This article does not constitute financial product advice.
