Initial filling of Pond 1 begins at the HMW project

Special Report<\/em>: Galan has made progress in advancing the Hombre Muerto West (HMW) project towards production in a timely manner with the start of maiden filling for Pond 1. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Galan Lithium\u2019s (ASX:GLN)<\/a> project team has been implementing a quicker route to starting evaporation while construction continues for Phase 1 at HMW.<\/p>\n

The HMW project, which is expected to have low operating costs in the first quartile of the lithium industry\u2019s cost curve once it is in production, has been separated into four phases with Phase 1 focused on the production of 5.4ktpa LCE of a lithium chloride concentrate by H1 2025, as governed by the approved production permits.<\/p>\n

Phase 2 targets 21,000tpa LCE of a lithium chloride concentrate in 2026, followed by Phase 3 production of 40,000tpa LCE by 2028 and finally a Phase 4 production target of 60,000tpa LCE by 2030.<\/p>\n

Phase 4 will include lithium brine sourced from both HMW and Galan\u2019s other 100% owned project in Argentina, Candelas.<\/p>\n

Partial evaporation process to kick off shortly <\/strong><\/h2>\n

GLN managing director Juan Pablo Vargas de la Vega says the company is taking advantage of the summer season whereby a buffer wall has been installed at the one third mark of Pond 1.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe commencement of the filling of Pond 1 is another significant milestone for the HMW project and I congratulate the entire Galan team,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe initial partial evaporation process will begin in about 14 days with the full fill of Pond 1 remaining on track for Q1 2024.\u201d<\/p>\n

What\u2019s next? <\/strong><\/h2>\n

GLN\u2019s liner installation at Pond 1 is also rapidly moving forward, with works at 40% completion while earthworks continue at Pond 2.<\/p>\n

An updated resource estimate is due at the project later this quarter.<\/p>\n
