{"id":3277,"date":"2023-12-15T01:50:23","date_gmt":"2023-12-15T01:50:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=3277"},"modified":"2023-12-15T01:50:23","modified_gmt":"2023-12-15T01:50:23","slug":"dy6-metals-stakes-highly-prospective-lithium-ground-in-malawi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=3277","title":{"rendered":"DY6 Metals stakes highly prospective lithium ground in Malawi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DY6 Metals stakes two exclusive prospecting licences in Malawi with strong potential for lithium<br \/>\nField work has collected rock chip samples from the Mzimba and Karonga projects<br \/>\nNew licenses highly complementary to the company\u2019s existing critical metals portfolio<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Special Report:<\/em> DY6 Metals<\/strong> <strong>has submitted four exclusive prospecting licence applications totalling 746.7km2 in northern Malawi, Africa, for tenements it considers to be highly prospective for lithium. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The move comes just days after the company submitted a prospecting licence application over a carbonatite ring complex in southern Malawi known as Tundulu, with significant potential for Rare Earth Elements (REE).<\/p>\n<p>The new lithium licence areas under application are \u2018Mzimba\u2019 (West, Central and South) which covers an area of approximately 710.5km2, and \u2018Karonga\u2019 which covers a total area of 36.2km2.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/dy6-metals-dy6\/\"><strong>DY6 Metals (ASX:DY6)<\/strong><\/a> says the applications will expand its overall strategic footprint in Malawi to a total 1,080 km2.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re also highly complementary to the company\u2019s existing critical metals portfolio, which includes the flagship Machinga REE project \u2013 also in Malawi \u2013 where it recently returned drill hits such as <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/resources\/continued-widespread-intersections-dy6-drills-into-more-high-grade-magnet-rare-earths-in-malawi\/\"><strong>11m at 0.74% TREO and 0.29% niobium from surface<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Multiple pegmatite swarms at Mzimba<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>At Mzimba, the company\u2019s geological team recently undertook a reconnaissance field visit over the project, identifying multiple pegmatite swarms, with pegmatites traced for up to 500m in length, with varying widths between 5m and 25m+.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite the potential in-pegmatite resources, only small-scale mining activities targeting gemstones occur in the area and little modern exploration has been conducted for lithium, caesium, niobium and tantalum that could be associated with pegmatites.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Location map of the Mzimba lithium project. Source: DY6<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very excited about these four strategic lithium licence applications in northern Malawi,\u201d DY6 CEO Lloyd Kaiser said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cField reconnaissance has identified several pegmatite systems, which are currently being worked by artisanal miners for a range of minerals, including the gemstones tourmaline and beryl, and lithium micas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the company waits for licence granting, the focus of the exploration team will be on undertaking a detailed geological and geophysical review of these three new licence areas over the coming months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Field work to date has also observed pegmatites at the Karonga project.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Location map of Karonga lithium project.
