ASX to rise on Monday after a rally on Wall Street
\nMicrosoft is at all-time highs once again
\nBetashares launched an ETF focusing on companies with large free cash flows<\/p>\n

Aussie shares are poised to open higher on Monday on the back of a Wall Street rally. At 8am AEDT, the ASX 200 index futures was pointing up by +0.3%.<\/p>\n
On Friday, the S&P 500 rose by +1.56%, the blue chips Dow Jones index was up by +1.15%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq surged by +2.05%.<\/p>\n
Microsoft<\/strong> jumped 2.5% and reset another all-time high. The stock has been rising 13% in the past month, buoyed by the company\u2019s recent quarterly results which showed better-than-expected growth at its Azure cloud unit.<\/p>\n Other megacap stocks also rose, with Nvidia<\/strong> up 3%, and Meta<\/strong> by 2.5%.<\/p>\n The biggest mover was Nasdaq-listed Plug Power<\/strong>, which \u00a0plummeted more than 30% after warning that there is \u201csubstantial doubt about the company\u2019s ability to continue as a going concern.\u201d Plug Power provides fuel cells for industrial EVs.<\/p>\n Gains on Friday came despite fresh data showing the American consumer feels worse about the state of the US economy, as consumer sentiment<\/strong> fell for a fourth straight month in November.<\/p>\n Looking ahead, the all-crucial October US inflation report<\/strong> is due tomorrow (US time). Economists have forecast a continued overall decline in inflation, led largely by easing energy prices.<\/p>\n Back home in Australia, the focus will be on October\u2019s jobs report<\/strong> on Thursday, with most analysts already penciling in an unchanged unemployment rate at 3.6%.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n In its last update, Berkshire Hathaway<\/strong> reported that its cash pile has scaled a fresh record at $US157.2 billion as the company struggled to find those big-ticket deals that Warren Buffett is renowned for.<\/p>\n But Berskshire\u2019s huge cash position has turned investors\u2019 focus on the importance of free cash flow.<\/p>\n Free cash flow is the cash a company generates from its business operations after considering working capital needs and capital expenditures.<\/p>\n It is an important barometer of the health of a company and determines its ability to pay dividends, buy back shares or fund expansion plans.<\/p>\n According to Betashares,<\/strong> there is a body of evidence that suggests a strong association between free cash flow generation and sharemarket performance, as well as persistence.<\/p>\n \u201cCompanies with a strong free cash flow have historically tended to outperform broad global equity benchmarks over the medium to long term,\u201d said the fund manager.<\/p>\n Betashares has just announced the launch of the Global Cash Flow Kings ETF (CFLO)<\/strong> on the ASX, a fund which aims to track an index providing exposure to companies that demonstrate strong and consistent free cash flow generation.<\/p>\n Some of the top holdings in the new fund are expected to include well known global names such as Microsoft, Visa and Adobe.<\/p>\n Betashares CEO, Alex Vynokur<\/strong>, said \u201cCash flow is a measure that is often used by investors and analysts as an indicator of a company\u2019s overall financial health and performance prospects.<\/p>\n \u201cWe believe that investing with a focus on cash flow is an intelligent approach offering the potential for outperformance versus traditional broad global equity benchmarks over time.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Gold price<\/strong> fell almost -1.03% to US$1,938.09 an ounce.<\/p>\n The benchmark US 10-year treasury<\/strong> yield was flattish.<\/p>\n Oil prices<\/strong> gained +2%, with Brent trading at US$81.63 a barrel.<\/p>\n Iron ore futures<\/strong> gained 0.2% to US$128.07 a tonne.<\/p>\n The Aussie dollar<\/strong> was down -0.2% to US63.58c.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Bitcoin<\/strong> jumped +0.5% in the last 24 hours to US$37,189.
