{"id":11206,"date":"2021-07-07T06:33:46","date_gmt":"2021-07-07T06:33:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=11206"},"modified":"2021-07-07T06:33:46","modified_gmt":"2021-07-07T06:33:46","slug":"last-orders-asx-returns-to-the-green-gaining-0-78-per-cent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=11206","title":{"rendered":"Last Orders: ASX returns to the green, gaining 0.78 per cent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After yesterday\u2019s drop, risk-on sentiment returned to Australia\u2019s bourse today.<\/p>\n<p>The ASX 200 rose 0.9% to 7,327 points while the ASX Emerging Companies Index rose 0.3% to 2,167 points.<\/p>\n<p>Energy surprisingly dropped 1.91% after gaining substantially in the past couple of days but all other sectors were in green, led by tech which rose 2.82% and consumer staples which rose 1.86%.<\/p>\n<p>Once again the top stock was a new IPO in <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/burley-minerals-bur\/\">Burley Minerals (ASX:BUR)<\/a> ripping higher by 80%. Fellow listee <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/askari-metals-as2\/\">Askari Metals (ASX:AS2)<\/a> also had a positive debut gaining 20%.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>ANNOUNCEMENTS YOU MAY\u2019VE MISSED<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Copper producer <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/sandfire-resources-sfr\/\">Sandfire Resources (ASX:SFR)<\/a> secured the mining licence for its Motheo Copper Mine in Botswana. Revelling in this news was Sandfire\u2019s contractor <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/perenti-global-prn\/\"><strong>Perenti (ASX:PRN)<\/strong><\/a>, which reminded shareholders the contract would deliver $648 million to its coffers over the 7 and a quarter year contract term.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/valor-resources-val\/\"><strong>Valor Resources (ASX:VAL)<\/strong><\/a> has snapped up five uranium projects in Canada\u2019s Athabasca basin. The company says the purchases will take its landholding up to 98,600 hectares and that shareholders can expect results of a recent airborne survey to be published \u201cvery shortly\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Annuity provider <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/challenger-cgf\/\"><strong>Challenger (ASX:CGF)<\/strong><\/a> saw 15% of its shares traded between Caledonia Investments and annuity provider Athene for approximately $720 million. Challenger\u2019s CEO Richard Howes said the buy was a strong endorsement of Challenger\u2019s market position and long term growth prospects.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/secos-group-ses\/\"><strong>Secos Group (ASX:SES)<\/strong><\/a> announced it would be establishing a Research and Development Centre to develop biopolymer products that are intended to replace conventional plastics. The company says it will invest $2 million over 3 years and its centre will be unique to Australia.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s rare to find stocks that have anything to do with Russia but <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/uscom-ucm\/\"><strong>Uscom (ASX:UCM)<\/strong><\/a>, which is selling various monitoring and reporting devices including for heart health, sepsis, <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/health\/health-are-uscoms-sales-really-up-on-coronavirus\/\">and even COVID-19,<\/a> is one of them.<\/p>\n<p>Today it told shareholders Russian regulators gave it authority to sell its USCOM 1A cardiac monitor device in the country after trying for approximately 3 years. It noted Russia has 150 million people, the world\u2019s 12th largest GDP, a medical health spend of US$45 billion and potential to grow further with its aging population.<\/p>\n<p>Gold producer <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/westgold-resources-wgx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Westgold Resources (ASX:WGX)<\/a> recommenced operations at its Bluebird underground mine in WA after temporarily suspending operations earlier this year.
