{"id":1104,"date":"2023-11-07T18:00:38","date_gmt":"2023-11-07T18:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=1104"},"modified":"2023-11-07T18:00:38","modified_gmt":"2023-11-07T18:00:38","slug":"taiton-begins-molybdenum-hunt-in-south-australias-oldest-and-largest-geological-province-the-gawler-craton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=1104","title":{"rendered":"Taiton begins molybdenum hunt in South Australia\u2019s oldest and largest geological province, the Gawler Craton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Taiton begins second drill program at the Highway project, focusing on the Merino prospect<br \/>\nDrilling will test a molybdenum anomaly identified by ultrafine soil sampling<br \/>\nDrill samples will be dispatched to the laboratories in batches when collected <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Special Report: Drill rigs have arrived on site at Taiton Resources\u2019 Highway project to begin a second drill program in search for molybdenum following the identification of an anomaly during an ultrafine soil survey. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/taiton-resources-t88\/\">Taiton Resources (ASX:T88)<\/a> is looking for massive deposits at the underexplored 2,930km2 Highway project, which hosts shallow magmatic hydrothermal mineralisation interpreted to have formed at the same time as the world-class Olympic Dam\u00a0deposit in South Australia\u2019s Gawler Craton.<\/p>\n<p>Olympic Dam is one of the one of the world\u2019s largest iron-oxide-copper-gold (IOCG) deposits and the fourth largest copper deposit globally.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Taiton\u2019s South Australian project \u2013 the pink dot represents the location of the Merino prospect, and the green dots represent mines with IOCG deposits. Pic via Taiton Resources<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Various exploration activities have been carried out at the project this year including a 22-hole drill program for 3,062m at the Merino prospect to identify potential mineralisation.<\/p>\n<p>This was then followed up with an ultrafine soil sampling program over a 4.5km by 4km area to identify polarisation anomalism and outline prospective areas for drilling.<\/p>\n<p>The soil sampling identified a coherent molybdenum anomaly north and east of the company\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/resources\/there-is-a-mineral-system-at-merino-taiton-kicks-off-maiden-drilling-at-highway-project\/\"><strong>maiden drill program<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0as well as anomalous base and precious metals, which executive director Noel Ong\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/resources\/taiton-discovers-broad-footprint-of-molybdenum-at-flagship-highway-project\/\"><strong>said previously<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0was indicative of a big \u201cmineralising event\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Second drill program kicks off <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Molybdenum is primarily used as an additive in alloy steels to improve strength, toughness, and weldability for a range of applications in manufacturing processes such as carmaking, shipbuilding, construction, as well as mining, chemical, oil &amp; gas and energy industries.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Location of planned new drilling collars at the Merino prospect, which will target the two main areas of molybdenum anomalism.
