{"id":10514,"date":"2024-06-04T02:40:13","date_gmt":"2024-06-04T02:40:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=10514"},"modified":"2024-06-04T02:40:13","modified_gmt":"2024-06-04T02:40:13","slug":"significant-milestone-optiscan-soars-on-new-invue-imaging-device-for-precision-surgery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=10514","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Significant milestone\u2019: Optiscan soars on new InVue imaging device for precision surgery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Optiscan unveils the InVue next-gen microscopic medical imaging device for precision surgery<br \/>\nInVue broadens Optiscan\u2019s product portfolio into the surgical application market, a significant step forward in achieving its strategic objectives<br \/>\nThe versatile imaging device is suitable for various clinical settings, particularly in cancer diagnosis and treatment adjustments<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Special Report:<\/em> <\/strong><strong>Optiscan has soared after unveiling its ground-breaking new microscopic medical imaging device InVue, which is designed to enable precision surgery by putting real-time digital pathology access directly into the hands of surgeons.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The latest <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/optiscan-oil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Optiscan (ASX:OIL) <\/strong><\/a>device leverages its patented technology and is designed to be used by surgeons to gain immediate pathology insights in the operating theatre, to enable on-the-spot decision making, treatment adjustments and precision surgery.<\/p>\n<p>OIL says the quicker delivery of diagnosis insights marks a significant advancement in the field of pathology, traditionally performed in dedicated laboratories using analogue methods, separate from the operating room.<\/p>\n<p>The company says the current pathology process is time-consuming, involves multiple steps, and delivers results to surgeons after considerable delays.<\/p>\n<p>Designed and manufactured in Melbourne by OIL in partnership with Sydney and Melbourne-based industrial design firm Design + Industry, InVue is designed for ease of use in various clinical settings, such as cancer diagnosis and treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The device provides surgeons with real-time microscopic imaging and pathology details, helping them to enhance the accuracy of their diagnoses and reduce the need for multiple diagnostic procedures and repeat surgeries.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>The InVue imaging device. Pic: Optiscan<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Lowering healthcare costs<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Importantly, the InVue device is expected to achieve more than just enabling more precise treatment.<\/p>\n<p>By enhancing the accuracy and speed of treatment, OIL says InVue should also help reduce healthcare costs and improve patient outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>The device has a spatial resolution of 0.55\u03bc, making it more than 1000 times more powerful than traditional CT and MRI scanners, which have a typical resolution of 0.5-1mm.<\/p>\n<p>InVue is DICOM-compliant and PACS-enabled, designed to integrate with OIL\u2019s cloud-based telepathology platform, forecast to be unveiled in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The telepathology platform will enable surgeons and pathologists to collaborate on surgical cases in real-time from anywhere in the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Global leader in confocal endomicroscopic<\/strong> <strong>imaging tech<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>OIL has become a global leader in the development, manufacturing, and commercialisation of confocal endomicroscopic imaging technologies for medical, translational and pre-clinical applications.<\/p>\n<p>The biotech\u2019s technology enables real-time, non-destructive, 3D, in-vivo digital imaging at the single-cell level.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/health\/optiscan-and-mayo-clinic-join-forces-for-groundbreaking-advancement-in-pathology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OIL recently announced it had entered a collaboration<\/a> through a know-how agreement with the world-renowned Mayo Clinic with to develop an endomicroscopic imaging system for use in robotic surgery.<\/p>\n<p>The collaboration combines OIL\u2019s engineering expertise in digital endomicroscopic hardware and software development with Mayo\u2019s know-how in robotic surgery and patient care.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>\u2018Significant milestone\u2019\u00a0 <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>CEO and managing director Dr Camile Farah, who is also a pathologist, says getting its next-gen InVue microscopic medical imaging device to the reveal stage is a real credit to the hard work of the entire OIL team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reveal is much more than just a significant milestone in the company\u2019s growth strategy,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt paves the way for a significant evolution of digital pathology and precision surgery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Farah says InVue will bring digital pathology insights into the operating theatre and directly into the hands of surgeons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe end result will be enhanced speed and accuracy of treatment, which should in turn deliver improved patient outcomes,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are particularly excited by what the InVue, which tailors our patented technology to the surgical market, will mean for the future treatment and diagnosis of cancer patients.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will facilitate a dramatic step forward in the way cancer can be diagnosed and treated with unprecedented accuracy and precision.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s first intended use of InVue is for breast cancer surgery and margin determination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis form of cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer amongst women in Australia, with over 20,000 Australians diagnosed each year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the US, this number is as high as 300,000 per year, which is an important and large addressable market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>This article was developed in collaboration with Optiscan, a Stockhead advertiser at the time of publishing.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This article does not constitute financial product advice.
