The lithium price gloom<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Let\u2019s start with the lithium spot price\u2026 if we can actually call it that.<\/p>\n

One of the closest data points we have for lithium pricing that\u2019s accepted globally is Fastmarkets\u2019\u00a0North Asian lithium prices \u2013 the agglomeration of spot sales across China, Japan and Korea \u2013 which, as Stockhead<\/em> resources expert Josh Chiat noted the other day, continue their malaise.<\/p>\n

Per Friday Ground Breakers<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Lithium has most recently been trading around US$22,000\/t according to Fastmarkets.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s being dragged down by China, where lithium hydroxide and carbonate prices are trading slightly down at around US$20,800\/t and US$22,000\/t respectively\u201d.<\/p>\n

As Fastmarkets\u00a0reported last week, \u201cChinese lithium carbonate prices are down amid bearish sentiment and thin demand, with hydroxide prices flat\u201d. Meanwhile, East Asian lithium prices are down on weak demand and consumer caution, and European and US lithium prices are also following the Asian downtrend, Fastmarkets continued.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

But\u2026 never mind that, big producers remain bullish<\/h2>\n

As we noted last week in the High Voltage<\/a> column, big gun Aussie lithium producer Pilbara Minerals (ASX:PLS)<\/strong><\/a> played down concerns in a recent investor call Q&A when asked if PLS had trouble selling spodumene on the spot market (just one part of the company\u2019s overall strategy) in the most recent quarter:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe demand is absolutely there for product,\u201d he said. \u201cIt hasn\u2019t been a case of, \u2018We can\u2019t move product\u2019, and certainly none of our customers are not wanting product.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just been more a case of moderating pricing and contending with the question of, \u2018What is the right price for the market?\u2019. That\u2019s where the shift has been.\u201d<\/p>\n

And, according to <\/a>Reuters<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>other major global lithium producers have similar thoughts and remain bullish on the long-term EV narrative despite the various headwinds out of China and apparent slowing pace of EV adoption along with \u201csluggish quarterly reports\u201d from Albemarle, Pilbara Minerals, Livent and others.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe see what\u2019s happening now as road bumps, but certainly not a determinant for the long-term growth we have,\u201d Eric Norris, head of Albemarle\u2019s Energy Storage division, told investors on Thursday.<\/p>\n

And Paul Graves, CEO of Livent (a supplier to BMW and Tesla), said: \u201cWe see (lithium) supply continuing to be the constraint on demand.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Mineral Resources (ASX:MIN)<\/strong><\/a> reportedly described current market conditions for lithium as a \u201crebalancing\u201d of supply chains and IGO (ASX:IGO)<\/strong><\/a> believes the industry\u2019s slump is onlya\u00a0 \u201cnear term\u201d issue.<\/p>\n

Turning battery metal heads on the ASX today<\/h2>\n

GreenTech Metals (ASX:GRE)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

GreenTech is moving quickly with its exploration programs at the Osborne JV in WA\u2019s Pilbara region with a 1,500m diamond drilling program as it continues to reveal the true potential of its ground.<\/p>\n

GreenTech\u2019s Osborne JV is held with Artemis Resources Artemis Resources (ASX:ARV)<\/strong><\/a>, with GreenTech commanding 51% and Artemis the rest.<\/p>\n

The asset sits to the east of the Ruth Well nickel-copper project in WA\u2019s Pilbara region, next door to\u00a0Azure Minerals\u2019 (ASX:AZS)<\/a>\u00a0monster Andover lithium discovery.<\/p>\n

Wildcat Resources (ASX:WC8)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The hits just keep on coming for WC8. It\u2019s up on the news its Pilbara-based Tabba Tabba lithium project near Port Hedland has delivered\u00a0more exceptional results.<\/p>\n

New assay results from the Leia pegmatite in the project\u2019s Central Cluster have revealed Wildcat has hit 180m at 1.1% Li2O from 206m, adding further gravitas and proof that the company has a Tier-1 deposit under its boots.<\/p>\n

The Leia pegmatite is now over 1.65km long, up to 180m wide, has been intersected to more than 350m vertical depth, and remains open laterally and at depth.<\/p>\n
