{"id":10183,"date":"2024-05-27T22:50:04","date_gmt":"2024-05-27T22:50:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=10183"},"modified":"2024-05-27T22:50:04","modified_gmt":"2024-05-27T22:50:04","slug":"sun-silver-partners-with-holland-knight-to-ride-into-funding-for-renewable-energy-transition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/economicherald.net\/?p=10183","title":{"rendered":"Sun Silver partners with Holland &amp; Knight to ride into funding for renewable energy transition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sun Silver in conversations for funding a Silver Paste facility<br \/>\nIts Maverick Springs project contains a world-class 292Moz of contained silver<br \/>\nThe metal is intrinsic to the world\u2019s renewables goals \u2013 especially solar panels<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Special Report: <\/em>Sun Silver has commenced investigations into project grants and alternative funding via various USA government departments including, the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Inflationary Reduction Act (IRA) mechanism.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/sun-silver-ss1\/\"><strong>Sun Silver\u2019s (ASX:SS1)<\/strong><\/a> cornerstone asset is the Maverick Springs project, \u00a0about 85km from the fully serviced mining town of Elko in Nevada and surrounded by several world-class gold and silver mining operations including Barrick Gold\u2019s Carlin mine.<\/p>\n<p>Maverick Springs has a current inferred resource of 125.4Mt @ 43.5g\/t Ag and 0.34g\/t Au for 175.7Moz of contained silver and 1.37Moz of contained gold (292Moz of contained silver equivalent).<\/p>\n<p>A total of ~200 holes for ~60,000m of drilling has been completed at the project to date, across just ~20% of the landholding \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/resources\/plans-underway-for-major-drilling-campaign-at-sun-silvers-292moz-maverick-springs-silver-asset\/\"><strong>and there\u2019s more to come<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Avenues for funding<\/h2>\n<p>Various US government departments have committed trillions of dollars to grant funding projects contributing towards the globe\u2019s renewable energy transition, including over US$400m in funding to ASX listed companies <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/novonix-nvx\/\"><strong>Novonix (ASX:NVX)<\/strong><\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/syrah-resources-syr\/\"><strong>Syrah Resources <\/strong><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/stockhead.com.au\/company\/syrah-resources-syr\/\"><strong>(ASX:SYR)<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Separate to the billions of dollars currently available in grant and alternative funding through these agencies, the Whitehouse recently increased tariffs on Chinese solar imports from 25% to 50% to further encourage localisation of solar manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>Silver is a big part of that, accounting for up to 23% of the material cost of a photovoltaic (PV) cell in the form of silver paste.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Government engagement<\/h2>\n<p>Sun Silver has engaged Holland &amp; Knight to lead a two-stage process aimed at securing funding for the development of a silver paste facility in the USA, aligning with their ambitious solar energy targets.<\/p>\n<p>SS1 says the Holland &amp; Knight team have \u201cexceptional ties\u201d to key federal decision-makers in Congress and the Biden Administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Silver paste eh?<\/h2>\n<p>A local solution to provide silver paste within the USA to US PV Cell manufacturers will enable the USA to further decrease its reliance on China for PV Cell components and materials.<\/p>\n<p>Its primary function in solar panels is to create electrical connections between the solar cells, due to its electrical conductivity and stability under various environmental conditions.<\/p>\n<p>At the moment it\u2019s concentrated in a limited number of chemical companies that almost exclusively supply to China, which dominates &gt;90% of global solar component manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>This concentration raises concerns about the vulnerability of the supply chain to potential disruptions, emphasising the need for diversification and resilience in sourcing strategies for this critical component in solar panel manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>Silver paste involves a relatively simple low-cost process to manufacture (outlined below) and sells at a significant premium to spot price silver via industrial offtake agreements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday marks a pivotal moment for the company as we embark on a crucial partnership with Holland &amp; Knight,\u201d SS1 exec director Gerard O\u2019Donovan says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurrently within the USA it is a perfect storm when it comes to solar energy. This is attributed to key government initiatives and policy shifts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirstly, there is a notable government commitment to solar energy, underscored by ambitious targets and secondly, there\u2019s a heightened focus on reducing dependence on imported Chinese solar components and materials, evidenced by increased tariffs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSun Silver recognises a significant opportunity to contribute to the United States solar advancement by offering a local solution for silver paste.
